When and How Often to Keep Your Yard Happy.
Mulch is like a superhero cape for your plants, keeping them cool in the summer, warm in the winter, and weed-free all year round. But with so much mulch advice out there, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. Fear not, fellow plant parents! This guide will break down the mulch must-knows in a way that’s easy to remember.
After the frost says buh-bye and the soil warms up, it’s prime time to mulch around your plants. This helps them retain moisture as they wake up and grow. For most folks, mulching once a year is plenty. This keeps the layer nice and thick as it slowly breaks down. If you want your yard looking extra spiffy, or if the mulch breaks down quickly due to rain or sun, mulching twice a year (fall mulching can be form a cozy blanket for your perennials) is the way to go.
Let’s focus on the spring mulch. We aim for a 2-3 inch layer of mulch around your plants, leaving some space around the base to avoid any unwanted moisture build-up. We also work with wholesalers who provide organic mulch like shredded bark, wood chips, or compost. These decompose over time, adding nutrients to the soil – a win-win!
Now you’re armed with the knowledge to keep your yard looking its best and your plants thriving, all thanks to the magic of mulch!
